COVID-19, Influenza & RSV Guidance

Katonah- Lewisboro School District specific guidance recommendations for COVID-19

On March 7, 2024, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) adopted updated guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) related to COVID-19, Influenza, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). The District will follow the NYSDOH guidance as summarized below:

  • Individuals should stay home and away from others, including people they live with who are not sick, if they have respiratory virus symptoms that are not better explained by another cause. These symptoms can include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache.

  • Individuals can go back to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both of the following are true:

    • Symptoms are getting better overall, and

    • They no longer have a fever without the use of fever-reducing medication.

  • When going back to normal activities, individuals are encouraged take added precautions over the next 5 days, including taking additional steps for cleaner air, hygiene, masks, physical distancing, and testing when they will be around other people, especially older adults, young children, and those with weakened immune systems. Keep in mind that people may still be able to spread the virus that made them sick, even if they are feeling better, so it is important to take extra precautions after resuming normal activities.

  • If individuals develop a fever or start to feel worse, they should stay home and away from others again. They should use the same criteria for returning to normal activities as when they first had symptoms and take added precautions over the next 5 days.

When sick or not feeling well:

Parents are asked to keep children home if students are sick or not feeling well and to notify the attendance office and school nurse of the absence.

Medical Clearance Post-COVID guidelines:  If a student has had COVID-19 within 30 days of the start of a sport or during a sports season, they will need a medical clearance. The medical note needs to state " Student is cleared, Post Covid-19, to return to Sports without restrictions."

Yearly Reminders:

Students entering 7th and 12th grade must submit documentation of Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccination before the start of the school year.

Students entering 6th grade must submit documentation of TDAP vaccination once they are 11 years of age.

Mandated physical with immunization record for all new entrants and grades: K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11th due by October 15th.

Medication orders must be renewed each school year, even if a student carries emergency medication in their backpacks (high school level).

High School fall sports require a current physical which must be dated after 08/01/2023. Winter sports after 11/1/23. Spring sports after 3/1/24.

If your student has an outstanding injury or medical issue please follow up with your school nurse in August to update notes, or to clear them for
