The word was out. Students headed to B-Wing today for their study hall, for lunch, for class … and just to check it out! Their eyes widened as they walked into the spacious and welcoming new common areas filled with natural light and an array of seating options.
Soon, the high tops, lab tables, café counters, and collaborative desks were filled with students eating, working and connecting.
Beyond the two spacious common areas, B-Wing also features four classrooms and four sound-proof break-out rooms; they also opened for learning today.
B-Wing is one of the capital improvement projects at John Jay High School—a District-wide upgrade to infrastructure and facilities.
“This project reflects the District’s ongoing commitment to maintaining high-quality learning environments that support innovative teaching and learning,” said Assistant Superintendent for Business Lisa Herlihy, who stopped in to witness the students’ excitement. “We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to making these important renovations possible.”
Principal Steven Siciliano and Assistant Principals Mallory McDonald and Kim Piccolino also popped in and took in the way the students quickly made themselves at home. “The juniors and seniors remember this space when it was a nondescript hallway lined with blue lockers,” said Dr. Siciliano, looking pleased. He did, too.
